Full-Stack Development

Kii.am is a full-stack medical device development partner. We handle every engineering discipline required to take a device from concept to serial production — under one roof, with one team.

The engineer who designs your PCB layout also understands your optical requirements. The mechanical designer works alongside the firmware developer. And the team that prototypes your device is the same team that manufactures it.

This integrated approach eliminates the handoffs, miscommunication, and lost context that occur when development is split across multiple vendors.

Engineering Capabilities

Design, electronics, optics, firmware, and industrial design

LED & Optical Engineering. Wavelength selection, reflector geometry design (including compound parabolic concentrators), beam collimation, and power density optimization. We evaluate LED components based on actual datasheet performance and design optical systems that deliver controlled energy where the application requires it.

Custom Electronics & PCB Design. Our team designs custom PCBs from schematic through board layout with 30+ years of combined experience. Analog and digital circuits, power management, LED drivers, sensor integration, and communication interfaces including Bluetooth and USB.

Battery Management. We design battery management circuits that optimize charging, discharge control, and battery life while meeting safety requirements. Experience covers lithium-ion and lithium-polymer chemistries, including thermal management for devices that undergo repeated sterilization.

Motors, Pumps & Mechanical Actuation. DC motors, pumps, water controls, and precision mechanical actuators — engineered to be reliable, quiet, and appropriately sized for handheld and desktop devices.

Firmware & Embedded Software. Treatment timing and dose control, touchscreen interfaces, Bluetooth connectivity, motor control algorithms, and sensor data processing.

Industrial Design. We iterate on form factor, ergonomics, user interface, and visual design until the device meets high expectations for usability and professional appearance. See our project showcase for examples.

Manufacturing

Prototyping, tooling, production, and quality assurance

Rapid Prototyping. In-house 3D printing (FDM and SLA), CNC machining, production of jigs and fixtures, PCB prototyping, and rapid injection molding. We iterate quickly during development — testing mechanical fits, optical performance, and assembly processes before committing to production tooling.

Production Tooling & Injection Molding. When your device is ready for serial production, we manage the transition from prototype to tooled production. We design and source injection molds, establish assembly processes, and validate production workflows. Our production capability handles volumes from hundreds to tens of thousands of units per year.

Assembly, Testing & QA. Final assembly, functional testing, and quality assurance happen in our facility. Every device is tested against defined acceptance criteria before shipping. Our quality processes include incoming inspection, in-process checks, and final device verification — aligned with ISO 13485 quality management practices.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Kii.am handle every stage of development in-house?

Yes. Concept design, mechanical engineering, electronics and PCB design, optical engineering, firmware, industrial design, prototyping, and serial manufacturing all happen in our facility with our team.

What prototyping capabilities does Kii.am have?

We maintain in-house 3D printing (FDM and SLA), CNC machining, PCB prototyping, rapid injection molding, and custom jig and fixture production. This allows rapid design iteration before committing to production tooling.

Can Kii.am develop both the electronics and mechanical components?

Yes. Our engineering team covers mechanical design, electronics and PCB layout, firmware, and optical engineering. Having all disciplines under one roof means your device is designed as an integrated system, not as separate subsystems.

What manufacturing processes does Kii.am use?

Our production capabilities include injection molding, PCB assembly, electromechanical assembly, optical component integration, functional testing, and quality assurance. We manage tooling sourcing, production line setup, and ongoing manufacturing.

How does Kii.am handle design for manufacturing (DFM)?

Because the same team handles both design and manufacturing, DFM considerations are integrated from the start of development. Our engineers design with production processes, tolerances, and assembly requirements in mind - not as an afterthought before tooling.

One team. One facility. Concept to production.
